The present building of St Andrew’s CE Primary School was opened in January 1975. It is a Church of England Controlled school and has close links with St Andrew’s Church. It replaced the previous Church of England school that was situated on School Street on the east side of St Andrew’s Church.
In 2014, as a result of an enlargement plan by Rochdale Local Authority a purpose built nursery school (The Lodge) was built with 26 full-time equivalent places for nursery age children. Also an upstairs extension (which now includes 3 more classrooms) was built on to the original building and completed in September 2014.
In 2018, as a result of a further enlargement plan by Rochdale Local Authority to go to a two from entry school (60 pupils per year group). An extension to the upstairs block (which now includes 6 classrooms) was built on and completed in September 2018.
The school can now admit up to 60 children in reception.
In addition to the teaching areas, each with their own cloakroom facilities, there is nurture provision and a school library. The hall/gymnasium is also used as a dining room with meals cooked on the premises.
The school stands in its own grounds and has extensive playing fields with a garden area, multi-use games area and a horticultural area. There are tarmac play areas for Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 respectively.
